C86 pop, featuring Cassie Ramone

Artist: The Babies
Title: "All Things Come to Pass" b/w "Caroline"
Label: Wild World Records
Release date: March 2010

Here is the debut release by a Brooklyn-area supergroup that features members of Woods, Bossy, and Vivian Girls and it is chock full of tambourine-shaking minimalist pop.

The Vivian Girl in the fold is Cassie Ramone, and her fingerprints are all over this. She sings lead on both songs, provided the cover artwork, and runs Wild World Records with her Vivian Girls bandmates.

"All Things Come to Pass" is upbeat and simple in a C86 kind of way. It's a little early to consider the best songs of 2010, but the only thing that's definitely catchier so far was another Wild World release with Cassie on lead vocals (you know the one!).

I'm trying not to let this post become an excuse to talk about Vivian Girls, but "Caroline" is mini jam session followed by lyrics that let the listener know that the band is about to drive this one home, kind of like "My Baby Wants Me Dead."

This, like most good two or three song 7" releases, will leave you wanting more. Fortunately, you will be able to get your fix soon from Make a Mess Records.
