A classic punk gem from Switzerland

Artist: Chin Chin
Title: We Don't Wanna Be Prisoners
Label: Mississippi Records
Release date: Originally released in 1984 on the band's own Farmer Records. Re-released in January 2010.

Here's a re-release of a Swiss all-girl unit not called Kleenex or Liliput featuring three catchy punk songs with infectious harmonies.

The A-side, "We Don't Wanna Be Prisoners", has chantalong lyrics, punky riffs, and really primitive drumming. The flipside features the dreary surf-rock meets Velvet Underground sounds of "Desires Only" and drenched-out post-punk anthem "World's Burning".

How this band is not as lauded as groups like Delta 5 or Bush Tetras is beyond me, as this group based on their debut 7" was on the same level musically and creatively as many of their peers.

Do they have any other releases to track down? Yes. They did an LP in 1985 called Sound of The Westway, and Mississippi Records (which is based out of Portland, Oregon's Mississippi Avenue and not the state of Mississippi)and Slumberland Records will be re-releasing it on April 27.
